Electoral Commission postpones UGSRC elections

 News reaching the university of Ghana community indicate that the electoral commission has postponed the incoming UGSRC general elections. They election was scheduled to take place on Friday, 2nd September 2022 but the EC came out with a communique announcing their decision to postpone the elections until further notice. This is the whole statement released by the electoral commission. "Acting on Article 11(g) of the Constitutional Instrument (C.I 2022) regulating the conduct of the 2022 SRC elections, it is announced for the information of all candidates, stakeholders, and the entire university community that the 2022 SRC election has been postponed until further notice." Change Commonwealth Hall to Bawumia Hall to help fight the dollar - Twitter user propose

  As university management is struggling to find solutions to the unending rivalry between residents of Commonwealth hall and Mensah Sarbah hall, a twitter user has came out with a rather weird proposal. In his tweet, he said Commonwealth hall should be named after the vice president of Ghana, H.E Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. The twitter user by name Latif believes that this would end the fight between them because they will be busy fighting the dollar rather than engaging in violent clashes. He also went on to propose that the two major universities in the country, University of Ghana and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology should abolish these traditional halls before someone dies. UGSRC Elections - Electoral Comission opens nominations for aspirants

This is to bring to the notice of the general student populace of the University of Ghana community that the Electoral Commission has opened nominations for the various UGSRC Executive Offices. According to the electoral commission, the opening date for nomination is Wednesday 17th August, 2022 at 6:00am and the closing date is Saturday, 20th August 2022, at 6:00pm. The various executive offices to contest for are the offices of the President and the Vice President, the office of the General Secretary and the office of the Treasurer. Nomination forms for the president and the vice president cost GHS 1,000, while the nomination forms for the General Secretary and the Treasurer cost GHS 300.00  Thank You. Stay with me. Commonwealth Hall master and Senior Tutor dismissed

  Commonwealth Hall master and senior tutor relieved of duties, hall to be surcharged with cost of damages of property.  Following the clash between Mensah Sarbah Hall and commonwealth Hall on August 5th,2022, the management of the university has taken a decision to dismiss the Hall Master and senior hall tutor of commonwealth hall. This was stated in a communique from the Registrar dated August 15, 2022. UG students assured of new accommodation facilities - Pro vice chancellor for students and academic affairs.

According to Professor Gordon A. Awandare, pro vice chancellor for academic and student affairs at the University of Ghana (UG), in the upcoming years, students would see new hostel facilities springing up all over the campus. According to him, the university's top priority right now is finding housing, so his organization is collaborating with the university council to improve the terms of leasing the school's land in order to attract investors interested in developing hostel facilities. "We want to prove that this is the top university in West Africa by offering a positive study and living environment. Since the university hasn't really done well with facilities during the past ten years, more new ones would soon be seen in Accra, he said. Commonwealth hall denies claims of violent clash with Mensah Sarbah hall

  We could recall that on the late hours of Friday August 5, 2022 there was an alleged clash between members of Commonwealth hall and Mensah Sarbah hall. The incident has since then taken over all media platforms all over the country. In order to prevent the good name of the vandal city from going into disrepute, the leadership of the hall has came out to deny the reportage of clashing with Mensah Sarbah hall. In a letter dated 7th August,2022, signed by the JCR president, Mr. Paul Anim Nkoom and secretary, Mr. Daniel Kofi Boakye, it stated that there was no violent clash of any sort between the two halls.   The bitter rivalry between residents of Mensah Sarbah Hall and residents of commonwealth hall has never shown any sign of coming to and end. The two halls are known to have been involved in numerous violent clashes over the years. On Friday, August 5, 2022, the two halls engaged in what could be describe as another violent clash. It happened in the late hours of the night when most members of the university community have retired to bed. An unconfirmed story had it that some Commonwealth Hall guys dressed in the hall’s lacoste were attacked by residents of Mensah Sarbah Hall. Also, an uber driver with the muffle of Commonwealth in his car was attacked with his car’s windscreen smashed. The victims of these incidents reported the case to their fellow vandals who then organized themselves for a return match. the clash resulted in the destruction of several properties and left some students with injuries. 6 KNUST students arrested for raping a level 100 student

 A level 100 student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) claims that six young males, including her boyfriend, raped her in a group attack. The woman allegedly refused to play threesome despite Partick Fosu, her boyfriend, making repeated requests. The lady was lured to a place, where she was gang-raped by her boyfriend and five of his buddies at about 11:40 p.m. on Sunday, July 24, 2022, according to the police. The victim informed police that her boyfriend, Patrick Fosu, texted her from her room at the Evandy Hostel in Ayeduase and asked her if she wanted a threesome. The lady claimed that although her boyfriend was pressuring her to go on the adventure, she declined and said she would only engage in sexual activity with him if she felt like it. Then her boyfriend went on to say that he had been joking throughout their talk. Fosu urged the victim to go with him to a friend's apartment at a nearby hostel at midnight.
