Commonwealth Hall master and Senior Tutor dismissed
Commonwealth Hall master and senior tutor relieved of duties, hall to be surcharged with cost of damages of property.
Following the clash between Mensah Sarbah Hall and commonwealth Hall on August 5th,2022, the management of the university has taken a decision to dismiss the Hall Master and senior hall tutor of commonwealth hall.
This was stated in a communique from the Registrar dated August 15, 2022. According to the management of the university, the decision to suspend the said persons was due to the fact that they have not exhibited sufficient willingness and ability to hold students of the hall accountable for their actions in the recent violent clashes.
“The Hall Master and the Senior Tutor of Commonwealth Hall have not exhibited sufficient willingness and ability to hold students of the hall accountable for their actions in the recent violent clashes. These officers should therefore, in the interim, be relieved off their duties while management works with the security services to investigate the clashes, and works towards lasting solutions to the tensions between students of the two halls”.
Also, the damages caused at Mensah Sarbah Hall were blamed on commonwealth and therefore is to be surcharged with the cost of damages.
The JCR presidents of the two halls have also been referred to the Disciplinary Committee for Junior Members, for their actions and inactions leading to and after the riots.
