Electoral Commission postpones UGSRC elections
News reaching the university of Ghana community indicate that the electoral commission has postponed the incoming UGSRC general elections. They election was scheduled to take place on Friday, 2nd September 2022 but the EC came out with a communique announcing their decision to postpone the elections until further notice. This is the whole statement released by the electoral commission.
"Acting on Article 11(g) of the Constitutional Instrument (C.I 2022) regulating the conduct of the 2022 SRC elections, it is announced for the information of all candidates, stakeholders, and the entire university community that the 2022 SRC election has been postponed until further notice."
"Postponing the election date has become necessary following the outlawed involvement of stakeholders, which has avoidably retarded the readiness of the Commission to supervise and conduct the 2022 SRC election, which was scheduled to take place on September, 2nd, 2022."
"As soon as possible, a new date for the election will be announced after all the hold-ups have been resolved in line with the binding of the Constitutional Instrument (C.I 22) and the SRC Constitution governing the conduct of the 2022 SRC elections."
"The electoral Commission sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience this decision might cause."
That was the full statement from the Electoral Commission Chairperson, Mr. Daniel Kwasi Dzrekey dated 1st September, 2022.
In other news, the Electoral Commissioner for James Topp Nelson Yankah Hall popularly known as TF, has postponed the JCR elections a night to the day of the election. The Commission has refused to give an explanation on the reasons behind the postponement of the elections. Concerned members are therefore demanding that that EC should come out with another communique stating the reasons why the elections were postponed. This is the the statement from the EC.
